New Yorker Article - Protest Studies "The state is broke and Berkeley...
Here's a good article (from January's New Yorker I think) on this past semester's happening. There are mentions of the General Assembly, Oct 24th Conference, Solidarity Alliance and the occupations along with Ananya Roy's role. Tad Friend chose to write a piece on the budget cuts movement at Cal back in October (and got in contact with the folks he mentions in his article) and this is the piece he has written!

THE REGENTS WANT TO RAISE OUR FEES 32% & The President CONTINUES THE LAYOFFS & CUTS TO EDUCATION!
The Regents want to impose an additional 32% student fee increase at their Nov. 17th – 19th meeting. Meanwhile, UCOP continues to layoff & furlough workers & to cut critical student services and classes, while refusing to disclose the full budget! We want to know where OUR money is going!!
