Call for a Three-Day Student, Worker and Faculty Solidarity Strike starting on 11/18

October 23, 2009

The Solidarity Alliance at UC-Berkeley stands together with all affected students, workers, and faculty in public higher education across the state of California. Together we await the Regents’ decision on fee increases and issue the following demands:

Rescind all lay offs and halt all pay cuts!

Stop the student fee increases!

Give us full transparency of the UC budget!

End emergency powers and bring democracy to UC!

We will not accept Mark Yudof and the UC Regents' plans to privatize the UC. We will not accept the increase of student fees and the shrinkage of the UC work force and resources.

To this end we call upon the allied students, workers, and faculty to unite in a system-wide Three Day Solidarity Strike from November 18th to November 20th. We invite all members of the UC community in Northern California to converge on the Berkeley campus to Strike for these demands beginning with a mass rally on November 18th and a mass action on November 20th to call for escalation and continued struggle.

We stand in solidarity with members of the Southern California community who will converge on the UCLA campus to protest the Regents' meeting. We ask for the support of all members of the California public education system and seek to expand this strike throughout the California State and Community College systems through acts of Solidarity.

We urge all member of the community to take visible actions in Solidarity.

Together we will strike out against the loss of our jobs and staff support.

Together we will strike out against the loss of our fellow students’ access to higher education.

Together we will strike out against the Regents’ and President’s misuse of power.

Together we will reclaim OUR PUBLIC UNIVERSITY!

In Solidarity,

THE SOLIDARITY ALLIANCE AT UC BERKELEY
